Food is one of the substances which keep us alive. It is made up of many different ingredients and provides our body with energy to do work and nutrition to help our body fight diseases. It also provides nutrients to our body.

We should eat healthy food because it prevents our body from getting severe health related diseases. We should also eat clean food as germs might get on it and we could get a disease. We should also eat organic food which helps us to decrease the chances of getting cancer. If we eat food which grown up with the help of pesticides, then our chances of getting cancer increase.
How to be safe from diseases caused by bad food?

- Always eat a balanced diet with adequate amounts of nutrients

What causes diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease caused by eating high amounts of sugar. When high amounts of sugar are eaten, it is turned by the liver into fat. It also causes hypertension and high cholesterol in our body. Diabetes is also caused by drinking coke as it contains ten teaspoons of sugar which is the daily allowance. For every ten liters of coke, our lifespan is reduced by two and a half years.

What is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is waxy, fat-like substance present in our cells all over our body. It helps in making hormones, vitamin D and helps us to digest food.
What is high cholesterol?
High cholesterol is the result of eating foods containing more of cholesterol. It is also known as dyslipidemia.
How does high cholesterol affect our body?
High cholesterol increases our blood pressure and also blocks the chambers of our heart resulting in a heart attack. It can also lead to a severe brain stroke.
What is obesity?
The state of being more fat than usual is known as obesity. A person who intakes more amounts of sugar, carbohydrates and fats may suffer from overweight. This can cause severe health problems and sometimes even death. About 2.6 million people die every year due to obesity or overweight.
What should we do to prevent obesity?
To prevent obesity we should do the following:
- Not to eat more food than required
- Not to eat more of sugar, carbohydrates and fats
- Do physical activities everyday
- Check your BMI (Body mass index)and try to reduce it to normal i.e. between 18.5 to 24 (25 onwards is overweight and below 18.5 is underweight)
